The Forest Industry Organization

The Forest Industry Organization, abbreviated as FIO, is a state enterprise in the field of natural resources and the environment. It was established by a Royal Decree in 1956, with capital provided by the government starting in 1947, amounting to 10 million baht. In practice, the government provided only 10,000 baht in cash, along with assets including teak wood, which were from the Forestry Division and the Department of Forestry, along with some personnel. It has grown steadily since then. As of December 31, 2018, the Forest Industry Organization had assets valued at approximately 5,643 million baht, an increase of 501.70 million baht (an 8.89% rise) compared to 2017, mostly driven by investments in forest plantation projects.

Currently, the Forest Industry Organization manages a total of 1.108 million rai of economic forest plantations. The main source of income for the organization comes from its operations. In addition to generating revenue for the government, the Forest Industry Organization also supports and contributes to national policies on the conservation of natural resources and the environment, and social service work, particularly in the rehabilitation of degraded forest areas, watershed forest management, promotion of economic forest plantations, conservation and care of Thai forests, local community development, job creation, and livelihood opportunities for local residents, etc.
